
Solid Wood Marquetry with Juan Ballesteros

Juan Ballesteros (1982) is an Artist and a Woodworker. He lives and produces in Buenos Aires, Argenitna.
Next April he will be our next guest teacher, offering a Solid Wood MarquetryCourse with a theoretical component on Optical Geometry.
He learned to use tools from an early age with his father, later he entered the Modelo Polytechnic Institute where he deepened his passion for working with wood.
After some years of self-taught training, he opened his workshop and entered the GP Woodworking School in 2016. He also studied Conceptual Design at the Universidad 3 de Febrero in Buenos Aires.
He currently has his Workshop / Studio where he teaches and does bespoke work.
He is co-creator and coordinator of The Carpenters League, an artistic collective for the dissemination and promotion of the trade.

Each participant will design and make a piece of 30cm x 40cm.
Piece that can be used as a bedside table or as a decorative element.

Saturday from 10h to 19h*
Introduction
Introduction to Sacred and Optical Geometry.
Historical tour through different architectural and artistic works.
Illustrated explanation of the processes to generate geometric patterns.
Design process using a paper grid and markers.
Explanation about the Values (colors) and their usefulness to compose the figures.
Use of templates to produce marquetry pieces.
Design and production of a piece of 30cm x 40cm per person.
Sanding and finishing.
*One hour lunchtime. Lunch not included.

How long does it take?
The workshop will be 8 hours long. One whole day with an hour for lunch.
But I don't have any experience!
This course is designed for both beginners and more experienced woodworkers that want to incorporate the technique of solid wood marquetry and design with optical geometry in their work.
What type of wood will we use?
Pine, Cedar and Grapia.
What language will be taught in?
Juan is Argentinian so the course will be in Spanish.
