Spoon Carving with Andrea Cortés
Spend a few hours in our woodworking studio and learn how to carve a wooden spoon with Andrea Cortés.
This Spoon Carving Class focuses on a completely manual technique of Scandinavian style carving with Swedish tools (Slöjd) and is designed for all levels and ages (+18).
During the session you will learn about wood for carving, use and care of tools and various cutting techniques.
Spoon Carving is an inversive and meditative practice that allows you to connect with your own hands and silence your mind. You don’t need any previous experience or special skill, just patience and curiosity.
LEVEL I: Introduction to carving with Slöjd tools, carving practices with a knife and hook to secure the techniques and understand the behavior of the sharp edge on wood.
LEVEL II: Carving techniques and safety with the axe. Carving process from the cutting of a branch or log. Deepening in carving techniques and special attention to finishing.
